Just to recap, these are the first two posts in the series. You can go back and read these first if you missed them…
The 3rd way to sneak in world geography this summer is by playing a fun family board game called
Name That Country.
Rainy afternoons or quiet summer evenings are bound to happen at some point. So be prepared to sneak in some world geography with this basic country identification game. To play, one player or team spins and lands on the name of a country that must be identified with its correct corresponding number on the world map game board.
There are also spaces on the board marked with postcards. If a player lands on a postcard, they must correctly name the country that the postcard is referring to in order to advance. For example, one postcard reads, “Dear Pen Pal, Bon jour! I love to visit the Eiffel Tower. Name my country! Au revoir, Pierre”. This postcard is referring to France.
Finally, to make the game more challenging players can implement the rule that country capitals need to be identified along with the country’s location on the map. The first time my family played we chose the easier route, sticking to finding countries without naming their capital.
We also formed teams. My husband teamed up with one of our daughters, and I teamed up with the other. This also serves as a nice reality check for mom and dad to see how much they can remember from their long gone school days! Overall, this is a great family game that definitely helps everyone learn world geography. To order this game for your own family or as a gift for others you can go to my Discovery Toys website.
Or you can try to earn this game for FREE by setting up a Discovery Toys Virtual Party! With a virtual party a hostess can earn all of the free product benefits of a traditional home based party, without the hassles of preparing their home for guests. If a party earns $250 in qualifying sales, the hostess will receive $25 in credit towards DT products. $25 credit is enough to earn Name That Country for free! Of course, you can surpass $250 in sales to earn additional products.
To promote the concept of sneaking world geography into your summer fun, I am extending a special offer. The first five people to contact me at mommymaleta@gmail.com and book a virtual party before August 1st, 2014 with 10 or more guests on their invitation list will receive Name That Country for free! Party sales credit must be used first towards the cost of this game. However, in the event that product sales rewards do not cover the full cost of the game, I will cover the remaining balance for these 5 individuals. This does not apply to tax and shipping.
Not sure what, exactly, that means or don’t understand what a virtual party is? Contact me and I will go over all of the details with you. Just click the envelope icon in the top right to email me at…

I actually became a Discovery Toys educational consultant about the same time I launched this blog. I specifically wanted to promote this game on my site because I think it is very important to teach kids about other countries. More importantly, I want to teach children that there are other children, just like them, who happen to live in other countries. These countries have names, languages, food and climates different from their own. And yet, when we get to know these other children and call them our friends, suddenly these differences aren’t so different.
