In my last post I shared how our team in Nicaragua delivered backpacks and school supplies to children on the first couple days of our missions trip. During the second part of our trip, our team conducted medical clinics for disabled children and the elderly. For me personally, the final day of the medical clinics was the most special of all, because I had the privilege to meet a young girl named Magdaline.
The reason this meeting was so special is because I received her prayer card, shown below, at a fundraising dinner in October. My daughters and I have been praying for Magdaline every night before the girls go to bed, ever since we received this card.
To be honest, I thought Magdaline might be in rather critical condition. But thankfully, this little darling is doing relatively well despite the surgical wound that is still open on her spine.
One of my roles on the trip, was to play with the children while their family members saw the doctors and physical therapists. While cutting out shapes from play dough, I looked across the play area and saw Magdaline and her older sister. Magdaline was sitting in the special wheelchair type stroller she received from the team last year.
I quickly walked over to her and saw she was happily building duplo towers. I started up a little conversation and eventually explained that my family had been praying for her since October. I pulled up a family photo on my ipad and showed it to 3 year old Magdaline and her sister.
I took this picture of Magdaline and her sister after we talked for a bit. You can see all the cute little beaded bracelets and necklaces her sister made for her. Our team brought beads, crafts, toys, nail polish and lots of other goodies so we could try to make this a special day for the patients and their families.
Prior to play time on the patio, Magdaline and her sister met with a team of physical therapists. They assessed Magdaline and showed her sister various exercises she could do with her. They also cut a rectangle out of the back of her stroller so that her wound wouldn’t rub up against it.
I would like to ask all of you to pray for Magdaline, and for all the patients that came to the clinics. Even though I didn’t mention all of them by name in this post, God knows each and every precious one that came to the clincs, because they are all His children. He has already been answering prayers by miraculously providing highly specialized wheelchairs for these dear children and adults.
Thanks so much to all of you for reading these posts and following along on this journey. We certainly get to see God do some pretty amazing things when we explore the world one suitcase at a time.

What a beautiful girl. To see a smile on her face makes one’s own problems seem trite. I will certainly be praying for her.
