Congratulations to the U.S. Women’s National Team who lifted the Women’s World Cup championship trophy in a 5-2 victory over Japan! Since it’s time for our Spanish tip of the week at Mommy Maleta, I thought we could celebrate last night’s Women’s World Cup victory by learning some soccer terms in Spanish.
I found some great youtube videos to help us celebrate! The first video shows highlights of the game.
FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 Highlights
This next video gets us up to speed on Spanish soccer slang. If you’ve ever watched soccer in Spanish and just loved the enthusiastic commentators even though you didn’t understand a word they said, then this video will be right up your alley.

Sing A Sporty Spanish Song
This final video will teach you a catchy song so that you’ll be able to say useful sporty phrases including, “I play soccer!” What could be more important than that? : )
That’s all of the videos I have for today. But before we part ways, I want to share a link to a great infographic I found on a site called SpeakingLatino.com. It will teach you all the basic terms you’ll need to know out on the soccer field. The site also features great resources for the rest of your Spanish speaking endeavors.
I hope you enjoyed watching these three videos I shared with you today. I’m so glad you could join me to celebrate the Women’s World Cup with Spanish soccer slang. We have four years to practice our Spanish slang before the next FIFA Women’s World Cup rolls around!

We were so pumped when the US team won the World Cup! And we are hispanic so we only ever watch soccer in Spanish. It’s so much more entertaining! GOOOOOLLL!

I lived in Spain for 3 years and played soccer on a local league there and then have spent various stints for 3-4 months at a time in Central America so soccer in Spanish sounds way better to me!
