Welcome to the Thoughtful Spot Blog Hop! This week I would like to introduce you to someone and share an answered prayer. Last week I announced that I had just finished my Compassion Sundays series that featured the stories of Compassion sponsors.
Many of you also know that we adopted our, now almost 3 year old son, from Nicaragua. Through a Compassion Twitter party a fellow blogger shared the idea of sponsoring a child the same age as one of my own children. Well, that got me thinking…
I logged onto the Compassion International website to look at the pictures of children available for sponsorship in Nicaragua with the hopes of finding a 3 year old boy to sponsor in honor of my 3 year old’s upcoming birthday. I found a little boy that fit the description, but when I called to sign up I was told he had already been sponsored.
I began looking at all the other children from Nicaragua, but I couldn’t find any 3 year old boys. As I looked at the photos of all the Nicaraguan children I began to think of each one of them and wondered what their lives were like. Having been to Nicaragua several times, and living there for 4 1/2 months during the fostering period of our adoption, I had a decent picture of their impoverished circumstances. I began to pray that all of the children from Nicaragua would be sponsored and asked God to show me specifically who he wanted our family to sponsor.
A couple days later I logged onto the Compassion website, I tried looking up children from Nicaragua again, but a red box popped up saying there were no children that met my criteria. Thinking that it might have been a computer glitch, I called the Compassion number and explained my story.
The man told me that most likely, all the children from Nicaragua had been sponsored. I asked him if he could check to see if there were any children from Nicaragua left in their system. And, wouldn’t you know it? There was one 3 year old boy. He is now our sponsored child. Welcome to our family Enyel!
We have a wonderful booklet that tells us about Enyel, shows us a map of Nicaragua and shares what life is like in the specific region he is from. The booklet also explains how we can write letters to him, and give him special gifts for his birthday and other occasions. I also love the bookmark with his picture where prayer requests for each day of the month are written. Today’s request is for healthy emotional development.
Will you go one step further and pray that Enyel would grow strong spiritually, mentally, physically, and socially? Thank you so much!!
And now back to the Thoughtful Spot Blog Hop…
The Thoughtful Spot is a place to gather every week to share your family friendly posts, crafts, educational ideas, recipes, and more! The title is inspired by the philosophy of the Winnie the Pooh character in the classic A.A. Milne storybooks for children.
