I told you last week that my favorite Christmas tradition is reading Christmas stories. I love the miracles that abound. This weekend our family had our own Christmas miracle. My daughters began rehearsing early in November with a small choir of about 20 children from our church. They were preparing for a wonderful opportunity to sing in a professional Christmas concert with Keith & Kristyn Getty called Joy – An Irish Christmas.
So you can imagine how I felt this past Tuesday when I received a call from school. My youngest daughter was sick. Congested, scratchy throat and practically no voice by Wednesday morning. Thursday didn’t start out too bad, but as the day wore on she started coughing. That dry, hacking, non-stop cough. It was not looking good.
I sent out a group text to my extended family and friends asking them to pray. I scoured Pinterest Thursday night reading every home remedy and cough relief suggestion out there. Friday morning I texted back and forth with my sister-in-law who is a pediatric nurse, & at her suggestion switched to a different cough medicine. Then I whipped up little spoonfuls of honey, lemon juice and cinnamon. I also had my daughter gargle with warm salt water at various points throughout the day.
Now I promise you this is not a sponsored post for Delsym, but Friday afternoon after her first dose of the new cough syrup, her coughing noticeably subsided. I was still nervous about the potential of a coughing fit in the middle of the concert. I asked my family to pray specifically at her practice and performance times.
And literally, just an hour ago, my daughters and husband called (I get to see the concert tomorrow night) to announce that Little Lyssie didn’t cough once during the performance! She told me, “I coughed a lot before and got it all out. And then I coughed again after.” I passed the news on to my family and we exchanged some joyful “Praise The Lord” texts. I am so thankful.

So glad your daughter is feeling better! It’s hard to see our kids ill and not be able to do anything to help them!

Thanks. And I agree, it is a very helpless feeling at times.
