At Mommy Maleta our usual routine is to spend 4 weeks exploring each country we visit. The routine looks like this: Week 1 – map, flag, country facts Week 2 – interview Week 3 – craft Week 4 – recipe Recently, however, I went to Nicaragua, so the posting schedule changed a bit, and we extended our 4 week pattern by staying in Central America longer than usual. It is time, however, to pack our suitcase once again and travel to a new land. This time we are going to a country where the lay of the land ranges from fertile coastal areas, to mountain ranges, and finally to desert. We are headed to the Middle East to explore Oman. I have to admit, I did not know much about Oman until I started to do some research for this series. But, WOW, I’m so excited to explore Oman with you. This country is gorgeous! But before we take a look at some of the breath taking scenery, let’s check out the Omani flag, some interesting facts, and a map of the country.
Country Facts

Language: Arabic (official), English, Baluchi, Urdu, Indian dialects 7. Highest Point: Jabal Shams (Mountain of the Sun) 2,980 meters, around 9,800 feet
8. Men and boys wear traditional, ankle-length robes called dishdashas. They also wear turbans on their heads. Omani women wear colorful dresses over loose pants. They wear scarves on their heads and sandals on their feet. 9. Al Zulfa Mosque, one of the most unique mosques in Oman, is commonly known as the Royal Guards of Oman Mosque. 10. Camel racing with and without jockeys, and horse racing are popular sports in Oman. Interestingly, Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts are also popular recreational activities. I hope you all enjoyed exploring Oman! Make sure to subscribe to Mommy Maleta so that you won’t miss the next post in this series. I will be interviewing 4th grade C.H.A.R.G.E. students to find out more about life in Oman.
