“Now please command that cedars from Lebanon be cut for me…”
“I have received your message, and I will do as you have asked concerning the timber. I can supply you with both cedar and cypress. My servants will bring the logs from the Lebanon mountains to the Mediterranean Sea and build them into rafts. We will float them along the coast to whatever place you choose…”
– King Solomon asking King Hiram from Tyre for wood from the cedar trees for the temple construction, followed by King Hiram’s response found in 1 Kings 5
Have you ever heard of King Solomon? He was King David’s son and successor who asked God for wisdom. God was pleased that Solomon asked for wisdom instead of asking to be rich or powerful, so God made him extremely wise (1 Kings 3). Solomon wrote many of the proverbs, which are words of wisdom, found in the book of Proverbs in the first half of the Bible called the Old Testament.
Solomon also directed an enormous project. Solomon built a beautiful temple in Jerusalem. He used the best, most expensive materials available to build the temple. Wood from Lebanese cedar trees was one of the materials he used. Lebanon is known to this day for these cedar trees. You can see for yourself by looking at what is featured, front and center, on their national flag shown below.
